I genuinely enjoyed this. It wasn't scary though. The concept of the story is scary as hell (I certainly would never last in this world), but the execution of it just wasn't. It didn't ruin it though. It's a story of survival with a unique plot. There is a lot of switching from past to present, which is always a little confusing at first with an audiobook. I'd definitely recommend it.
